From its inception in 1928, General Shale has grown to be one of North America's largest brick, stone and concrete block manufacturers. In 2005, Thomas Weems Architect was called upon to design their new 45,000 square foot corporate headquarters building in the heart of Johnson City, Tennessee. With its splayed layout, mixed materials and sweeping entrance plaza, the building itself acts as an impressive display of the company's breadth of products, while the curved lobby and interior rotunda enhance movement throughout the building. The corporate headquarters also houses open office concepts, training areas, and a conference center.
